Aurigny has invested £300,000 on new access ramps and onboard seats.

Guernsey's taxpayer funded airline has purchased the new equipment so it can improve accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility.

The ramps will offer greater protection to the elements whilst boarding aircraft, and from November and December, passengers can expect to see these in action.

There’ll be one a piece at Gatwick and Southampton, and two are on their way to Guernsey, which have been purchased with a helping hand from Guernsey Airport.

As well as offering better protection, the ramps also are meant to be easier for staff to manually control and steer.

In a statement, Aurigny said the new chairs are “designed to be the maximum permissible width for the ATR” and the airline are hoping they’ll provide more comfort for passengers.

Dave Cox, is the Head of Ground Operations, he said of the new purchases: “We assist around 500 reduced mobility customers each month, and we’re working hard to enhance their travel experience with us.

“We remain dedicated to offering as much support as possible with specialised equipment provided to all customers who request it.

“Our customers can find all of the information they need about how we can help them on the Assistance Hub on our website.”

The purchase comes after the launch of an investigation into alleged disablist comments made by Aurigny staff during an internal meeting.

Aurigny CEO Nico Bezuidenhout recently told Express that the investigation is ongoing.

"That process is being run by our HR department," he explained. "They are investigating the process. I'm not personally close to it as it's being done by HR as it should be.

"This is an allegation that's been made and the veracity of the allegation has to be tested, and our HR department will be doing so."
