Another pub bites the dust

Saturday 02 March 2019

A St Peter Port watering hole will close for what could be the last time tonight, with the future of its site looking uncertain.

The White Hart announced it would be shutting this weekend, with the doors then staying closed for the foreseeable future at least.

While the pub's Facebook post alluded to the fact it may reopen in the future, there are currently no known plans to. The nightclub beneath the White Hart has also shut in recent months, while other businesses in Weighbridge House have closed or relocated.

Planning permission was given in January 2016 to redevelop the ground floor and basement parts of the building into one retail unit. That permission expired in January this year, and no new planning applications have been lodged.

The Food Hall is the only business still operating out of Weighbridge House but this week it confirmed it is also closing, in April, but will be reopening as a Morrisons next year. There has been no confirmation yet if the Morrisons will be bigger than the current Food Hall is.

While questions remain unanswered over the future of Weighbridge House and its various empty components, the party will continue at the White Hart for one last night

Live music has been arranged, with a crowd expected to bid farewell to one of St Peter Port's well known bars.
