Angler rescued ahead of high tide

Monday 25 November 2019

A fisherman had to be rescued from rocks off the north coast of Guernsey as the tide rose around him yesterday evening.

A call was made to the St Peter Port Lifeboat just after 16:00 amid concerns the man was going to be left stranded on the rocks all night.

While there was still 45 minutes to go until the high tide, he had already been cut off and could not get back to land safely by himself, so the decision was taken for the volunteers to go out and rescue him before nightfall.

The Spirit of Guernsey was 'tasked at 16:06' and the crew were on scene at 16:37. The lifeboat and the angler were all safely back in St Peter Port at 16:52, shortly after the tide reached its height of 9metres.
