An emergency at Alderney Airport has meant some people heading to the island to enjoy the annual festivities have had their arrivals delayed, but they should all get there tonight
Alderney Week starts tomorrow with a community BBQ and fun and games at the Butes before a Quarry Party in the evening.
However, flights in to Alderney this afternoon were delayed, with ongoing effects expected into the evening after an emergency situation involving a light aircraft just before 15:00. It had suffered a burst tyre just prior to take off.
No one was injured in the incident but the runway was closed for 45 minutes while the aircraft was removed from the runway and safety checks were carried out.

A spokesman for Alderney Airport said:
“Alderney Airport’s main asphalt runway was closed for a short time this afternoon, due to a light aircraft that suffered a tyre failure prior to take off at 14:59 local time.
"The closure was necessary to get the aircraft back to the apron safely. The other two grass runways remained open throughout the incident."
The spokesman said the airport will be staying open later than usual this evening because of ongoing delays to passenger flights, caused by the earlier incident,
"The Airport will also remain open late if required to clear any backlog ahead of Alderney Week.
"Alderney Airport apologises for any inconvenience caused by this incident.”
