Alderney’s ferry is out of the water after being damaged while on a wildlife tour.
The company behind the service has chartered a replacement that has now begun operating the route.
Alderney Ferry Services had chartered its boat, Causeway Explorer, to another local company to do the private tour on Thursday. While behind the Alderney Breakwater moving at four knots she hit something under the water.
“We can confirm no passengers or crew were injured,” said directors Dan and Charlie Smith.
She was being helmed by a local skipper at the time, not one of their employees.
“With the quick response of our crew who were onboard at the time of the incident, they got Causeway Explorer safely back into Alderney Harbour to disembark passengers and for an out of water inspection of damage. Causeway Explorer then motored to Guernsey to begin repairs immediately.”
The company chartered Buzz White on Access Challenger to help with their rotations.
“Our main priority for the next couple of weeks is to provide the reliable service which we are accustomed to but without Causeway Explorer, therefore we can confirm that as of today we have chartered Spot On, a new hi-spec catamaran from Brixham and she will begin service this evening for the next couple of weeks.”
