Guernsey and Alderney airports are cutting their opening hours further as fewer and fewer people fly on the 'lifeline services' between Guernsey and Alderney and Guernsey and Southampton.
With only one flight, five days a week to the UK, and inter island flights also only running five days a week, neither airport needs to open every day at the moment.
From today, the revised opening times for the airport terminals will see Alderney Airport close over the weekends between now and the end of May, while Guernsey Airport Terminal will also close on both Saturdays and Sundays. Guernsey Airport will remain open for cargo flights on Saturday afternoons.
Discussions were held with the key stakeholders, which at the moment will include Aurigny as the only airline serving the islands, before the decisions was made to cut the opening hours to a fraction of what they were at the beginning of the year.
The restrictions brought in to contain the spead of covid-19 have so far proven successful within the Bailiwick with no cases confirmed in Alderney and a decline in the number of positive cases in Guernsey over the last two weeks.
This is partly down to the closure of the Bailiwick's borders to all but essential travel in March.
