Access to States buildings is being scrutinsed via series of audits, as the public sector begins preparing for accessibility action plans.
The plans will need to be produced by 2028 in line with the recently approved Prevention of Discrimination Ordinance, which enforces accessibility requirements at work.
The States Property Unit went out to tender to find suppliers with specialist knowledge about building access. These suppliers will be preparing recommendations for improvements.
There are approximately 80 buildings which will fall under the access audits.
“We are starting this work early in recognition of our duty to lead the way in ensuring that requirements are met following the implementation of the Prevention of Discrimination Ordinance in October last year,” said the Director of Estates in the States Property Unit.
“These audits are essential to identify short, medium, and long term recommendations that will inform decisions around the prioritisation, planning and funding of improvement works.”
