A number of Carey Olsen lawyers from the Channels Islands have been recognised as leaders in their field in the 2017 Who’s Who Legal Private Funds guide.

Eight partners from the firm’s investment fund group have been featured in the directory due to the number and strength of recommendations they received from clients and private practitioners.

Since 1996, Who's Who Legal has identified the foremost legal practitioners in business law based upon comprehensive, independent research. Nominees are selected based on surveys of both general counsel and private practice lawyers worldwide. The listing comprises over 504 fund formation specialists and 86 regulatory experts from more than 100 law firms across 28 countries.

Guernsey partner Tom Carey was one of five offshore lawyers named as a thought leader and was described by the guide as ‘a highly experienced lawyer who always provides good and timely solutions’.

The guide recognises thought leaders as being truly outstanding practitioners and the very best in their field. They received the highest number of nominations from peers, corporate counsel and other market sources this year.

Also listed in the guide were Jersey partners Robert Milner and James Mulholland and Guernsey partners Christopher Anderson, Andrew Boyce, David Crosland and Ben Morgan.

Mr Carey said: "I am honoured to be recognised as a thought leader in the private fund sector and am very grateful to my peers for recommending me. The inclusion of so many of my colleagues in the guide is also testament to the firm's position as the adviser of choice to Guernsey and Jersey domiciled private funds.

Carey Olsen advises 63% of all Guernsey funds, with almost 75% of all new funds last year advised by the firm too. Carey Olsen now provides legal advice to 670 Guernsey funds (with assets of approximately US$240 billion), almost three times the number of the next Guernsey law firm (Monterey Guernsey Funds Guide, 2016).

In Jersey, Carey Olsen is the number one adviser for new regulated funds, advising more than twice that of the firm's nearest competitor (Monterey Jersey Funds Guide, 2016). Since July 2014, Carey Olsen has advised on 43% of all new funds business in Jersey; over the past year that has risen to 49%.
