The morning stroll along Jersey’s Esplanade from West Park to St Aubin and back on Friday 14th April will give islanders an active start to the Easter Weekend while they also help raise funds for the local charity.
Walkers will set off to the sounds of local band ‘Run for Cover’ from the first lay-by at West Park at 9 am, and will be offered refreshments at the half way point at St Aubin before they head back to town.
Frederick Deacon, Director at Whitmill Trust said, “I think everybody on the Island knows someone whose family or friends have been supported by the Jersey Hospice. The caring and compassionate team do a wonderful job and we are proud to be sponsoring the Doreen Hennessy Good Friday Walk again this year and raising awareness of the fantastic work that they do, providing end of life care to Islanders in need.”
Emelita Robbins, Chief Executive at Jersey Hospice Care, said: “We’re delighted that Whitmill Trust continues to support Jersey Hospice Care, with their sponsorship of the Doreen Hennessy Good Friday Walk. This event is a long standing event in our Fundraising Calendar and since it was started has raised over £218,500 for Jersey Hospice Care. It costs £14,000 a day to run the charity, which cares for patients with any life limiting condition and supports their families. Support such as this is vital to ensure that we can continue to run all our services free of charge, 365 days a year.”
The first walk was organised by local lady Doreen Hennessy to raise money for an MRI scanner for Jersey’s General Hospital. Since then it has become an annual fundraiser for Jersey Hospice Care.
Donations can be made via Whitmil’s Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Whitmill, and anyone wishing to join the Whitmill team and take part in the walk, can sign up on Jersey Hospice Care’s website where they will also find sponsorship forms or registration will be available on the morning of the event.
