Fundraisers from Capita Asset Services have walked the equivalent of more than 200 times around the island of Jersey to raise £2,500 for two local charities.
Jersey Cancer Relief and Mind Jersey will each benefit from the fundraising effort, which saw 60 staff from Capita’s Jersey office brace winter weather throughout January to walk a total of almost 20 million steps (19,716,488).
Capita Asset Services Jersey managing director, Norma O’Sullivan, said: “We are delighted to have raised the funds for two charities that are close to many people’s hearts. Both charities do fantastic work in our local community and we are proud that the funds raised will have a positive impact on Islanders that use them.”
Oonagh Butler from Jersey Cancer Relief said: “We are so grateful for the donation from Capita Asset Services, it will help us to do valuable work in supporting residents suffering from cancer who are finding it difficult to cope financially because of their illness. The funds will be a huge help to patients in meeting the cost of their treatment. As little as £10 will help towards food supplements for two weeks, while £50 will pay for a doctor’s visit at the surgery, and £100 will cover for a return flight to the UK for treatment or radiotherapy. Meanwhile, £350 will pay for medical equipment hire for one month to enable cancer patients to stay within their own home.”
James Le Feuvre, executive director of Mind Jersey, said: “We are delighted that Capita Asset Services has undertaken the challenge to raise funds for Mind Jersey. The funding will help to provide new and additional services for young people as it is recognised that early interventions can be very effective in supporting them at a crucial time in their lives.”
The challenge ran from January 9 to February 2, with employees in Jersey.
