A voluntary mentor to young people in Jersey has been recognised at a London awards ceremony by her company, Rossborough Insurance, which has also donated £750 to Barnardo’s.

Commercial broker Debee Tracey was one of the guests of honour after being nominated for her mentoring work with Barnardo’s Jersey. The annual awards ceremony recognises the contribution of staff at Rossborough and parent company Arthur J Gallagher to their local communities.

Rob Hewlett, director of Rossborough Insurance, said Debee deserved to be recognised for her efforts in helping young people in Jersey.

‘Every year our parent company Arthur J Gallagher recognise and celebrate volunteering and fundraising heroes and team across the business, with staff nominating the outstanding achievement of colleagues or teams.

‘Debee was nominated by her line manager Darren Wetheridge for her voluntary work with Barnardo’s Jersey in mentoring young people. She richly deserves recognition for this important work and we’re so pleased that she is part of the Rossborough team because we’re committed to our local communities,’ said Mr Hewlett.

Kate Falle, Plan B project lead at Barnardo’s Jersey, said Debee had supported fundraising, and group and individual one-to-one work since becoming a volunteer mentor a year ago.

‘One of Debee’s on-going roles is as a mentor for a young man. He has gone from being a shy quiet young man to now happily engaging in conversation, and this is largely due to the time that he spends with Debee. Well done Debee, this award is very well deserved, you give your time so selflessly to support others and we are very proud to work with you as one of our mentors,’ said Ms Falle.

Miss Tracey, who looks after the insurance needs of small to medium businesses, said she was humbled by the recognition and was proud to work for a company that supported its staff to put something into their local communities.

‘It was truly unexpected, and it was fantastic to meet so many amazing people at the awards ceremony in London. It’s wonderful that Rossborough and Arthur J Gallagher place so much importance on working within the communities in which we live, and recognise the effort that people go to achieve this. I’m proud to be able to present Barnardo’s with a cheque for £750 donated by the company I work for,’ said Miss Tracey.
