A five-strong panel of judges has been announced by the Jersey branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) for the eighth annual Jersey Director of the Year Awards.

The panel will be chaired by Colin Macleod, CEO, Channel Islands Co-Operative, who won the ‘Large Company Director of the Year’ category in the national UK IoD Awards in 2015. He will be joined by:

  • Mark Pesco, CEO, First Names Group
  • Lesley Harrison, Chairman, Prison! Me!! No Way!!!
  • Doug Bannister, Group CEO, Ports of Jersey
  • Alex Morel, Managing Director, ALX Training

All judges are former Jersey Director of the Year Award winners, whilst Lesley and Doug were also both highly commended in the national UK Director of the Year Awards last year and Colin won the national ‘Large Company Director of the Year’ Award in 2015.

The deadline for nominations for the Awards, which are once again supported by long-term Gold Sponsor Appleby who have been associated with the initiative since its inception, is Friday 24th February. The Silver Sponsor for the 2017 Awards is HSBC.

Nominations can be made online now at www.iod.je  and anyone can submit a nomination. The online process simply requires a concise recommendation of up to 250 words to demonstrate the qualities sought in the six different categories, which include:

  • Director of the Year for a Small Organisation (less than 10 employees)
  • Director of the Year for a Medium Organisation (11-100 employees)
  • Director of the Year for a Large Organisation (100+ employees)
  • Young Director of the Year
  • Public/Third Sector Director of the Year
  • International Director of the Year

The Awards will culminate in a black tie gala dinner on Friday 28th April at the Hotel de France, designed to celebrate the achievements of shortlisted nominees and winners from across the private, public and voluntary sectors.  Those who have successfully completed the Chartered Director program and the student winner of the latest IoD Work Shadow scheme will also be recognised at the event.

Chris Clark, IoD Jersey branch Chairman, said: "These are challenging times for Jersey, and if we are to reach our potential and enjoy a positive future, strong leadership is absolutely vital. We are lucky to have some excellent leaders in the island and with the deadline to our Awards now fast approaching, I would encourage anyone who places value on good leadership to think about nominating someone they know who has made a difference through their ability and hard work.”

Michael Cushing, Jersey Managing Partner of Gold sponsor Appleby, added: “The credibility of the Jersey Director of the Year Awards is what makes them such a key feature of our local business calendar, and I am delighted to see another strong panel of judges for the Awards this year. Appleby is keen to support and encourage strong leadership in our local community and I am pleased that we are able to continue our association with such an important initiative, which recognises and celebrates excellence across all sectors.”

Tickets for the Jersey Director of the Year Gala Dinner on 28th April can now be booked via the IoD Jersey Eventbrite page.
