JT has become the only Channel Island data centre provider to achieve the coveted ‘SOC’ quality certification.

Becoming SOC (Service Organisation Certification) certified is a rigorous, independent process, which inspects the full detail of a company’s controls, processes and procedures in a wide range of business critical areas from HR to security, financial management and operations.

After a year’s work, JT has now achieved this standard for its three Data Centres: at First Tower Lane in Guernsey, and its sites at Rue Des Pres and Five Oaks in Jersey.

The SOC certification, which is recognised across the world, is there to independently check that a company not only has the right procedures in place, but that it follows those procedures properly.

Paul Taylor, MD of JT’s Global Enterprise Business Unit said: “We are delighted to become the first, and only, Channel Island Data Centre provider to achieve this level of independent certification, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank my team for the very hard work they have put in over the last year, to make sure we have achieved it. It is a tough and rigorous process, and it was gratifying to achieve it with no areas of improvement at all.

“Many clients are now asking whether JT has achieved SOC certification before agreeing to trust us with their valuable corporate data; making sure that their partners have achieved this standard is an important part of their own corporate governance. We can now show them that we have the controls, procedures and processes to meet the very highest quality standards, and so become the partner-of-choice for finance and professional services firms. That’s clearly good news for JT, but I think it also reflects well on the Island as a whole, as we expect to bring significant amounts of business to the Island in this area, over the next few years.

“We work in a very competitive market, and this certification is an important differentiator for JT”.

The SOC certification comes just a few months after JT announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art £7m Data Centre on its site at Five Oaks in St Saviour in order to cater for the growing demand in its Data Hosting services.

JT is the largest local provider of Data Hosting services, as well as being the only company who have designed and built their facilities to a Tier 3, having so far invested close to £22m.

JT’s Tier 3 Data Centres are designed to offer the most advanced protection for customers’ data. The Centres are continuously monitored by teams using the latest security technology and are also some of the most advanced in the world for minimising electricity consumption.
