The annual Durrell Dash has become something of an Island tradition. With over 400 runners taking part last year, organisers are hoping that this year's Dash will be the best yet.

The 2013 race, which has once again been sponsored by Alex Picot Group, takes place on Sunday 20th October. With a 6km and a 13km option, the event appeals to both dedicated runners and those who are looking for a more moderate challenge.

The clockwise course begins and ends at Durrell Wildlife Park, taking in the parishes of Trinity and St Martin on the way.

Discussing the event, which has become an integral part of the Island's sporting calendar, Sarah Nibbs, Events Manager at Durrell said, "We're delighted that the Durrell Dash has proved so popular, both with Island runners and visitors too. We are grateful to Alex Picot Group for their continued support and are also really pleased to welcome Digby Ellis-Brecknell as our Race Director this year."

Commenting on the fundraising target she went on to say, "The money generated by this event is vital in assisting us in our mission of saving species from extinction. Last year we raised over £8,000 in total, so we have a target of £10,000 this year and are hoping for over 500 participants."

The two courses offer a choice for serious athletes and the shorter 6k dash is suitable for most abilities, plus it's a great way to see the beautiful countryside surrounding Durrell as well as its stunning grounds.

The 13 kilometre Dash begins with a warm up at 8.15am, followed by the race starting at 8.30am. The 6 kilometre Dash warm up will be at 8.45am and the starting gun will sound at 9.00am.  Runners of the 6km route must be 13 years or over, and 13km runners must be aged 16 years or over

Awards will be given for the top three in each Dash, as well as to the best dressed runners. All entrants will receive a specially designed t-shirt and medal.

The entry fee is £15 for adults and £10 for juniors (under 18 years of age) registered in advance and athletes of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part. Online registration is available until 15th October. Late registration is available from 7.15 am on the day at £20.00 for adults, or £15.00 for junior runners.
