Two local students have been awarded a bursary from Collas Crill Guernsey.
Head Girl Clara Coleman has just left Guernsey's Grammar School with three A levels and is planning to read law at Sussex University. She said: "I am thrilled to receive the Collas Crill bursary and I'm sure that not only the financial but also the mentoring support I will receive will help me achieve my ultimate goal of becoming a qualified barrister."
Fareed Anees had just left Elizabeth College with four A levels to read law at Southampton University. He said: "I have benefited from the firm offering work experience placements and its Moot competition that have all helped to encourage me to pursue a career in law. It is this active support that led me to apply for the bursary. I'm very much looking forward to my time with Collas Crill and my future studies."
HR Manager Jo Cottell said: "Collas Crill has a long tradition of supporting students. While financial support is important, our continuing commitment to guaranteed work experience and our tradition of mentoring and providing a source of advice is invaluable to young people embarking on a career in law."
Prospects for Collas Crill bursary students are extremely good. Now further on in her career, Bethan Boscher was awarded a bursary by the firm in 2008. Bethan went on to join the firm and later qualified as an associate at Collas Crill in 2011. She now forms a valuable part of the fiduciary team in Guernsey and will be mentoring Clara Coleman during her studies.
She said: "The bursary scheme is extremely helpful for law students. In particular, the work experience provided by the scheme was so useful during my legal studies. It provided me with a really good understanding of different areas of law and enabled me to appreciate how the areas of law I was studying worked in practice."
Mrs Cottell added: "For us too there is the benefit that we forge links with students of the highest calibre and potential would be employees. We wish Clara and Fareed all the best with their studies and look forward to welcoming them back soon."
