The Channel Islands group of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations has been praised for its commitment to continuous professional development.
The group, which is one of the most active, is also the leading region nationally for the proportion of members who have become Chartered PR Practitioners.
‘PR professionals in the Channel Islands have shown a real commitment to continuous professional development. Two years ago, a quarter of our members were either Accredited or Chartered and that has now risen to two-fifths,’ said outgoing chair of the group Adam Riddell.
‘Particularly impressive is that 12% of all of our members are now Chartered PR Practitioners, the highest proportion of any CIPR regional group.’
CIPR president Jason MacKenzie, who was the first chair of the Channel Islands group, praised the committee for its hard work.
‘Wherever I travel in Britain or the world, I meet groups of passionate PR practitioners, pursuing professionalism. It’s a particular pleasure for me to see the CIPR Channel Islands group continue to develop, and especially to see the appetite for achieving Chartered Public Relations Practitioner status, which is a mark of excellence. The PR community in Jersey and Guernsey makes me proud,’ said Mr MacKenzie.
Mr Riddell, who has been the Channel Islands group chair for three years, said the group would always be challenged due to its size and location.
‘Despite the fact that we are the youngest CIPR regional group and the smallest by some distance, we are one of the most active and the standard of the activity has been excellent. In 2016, we held nine CPD events as well as networking and social events and we continue to attract some of the industry’s leading and well-regarded trainers and speakers,’ he said.
‘It’s been a real pleasure to lead the group and be supported by dedicated committee members. I wish the new committee every success for the future.’
Mark Oliphant, head of communications at the Channel Islands Securities Exchange, will take over the role of chair. He is joined on the executive committee by vice chair Natasha Egre from The Refinery, treasurer Guy Le Maistre from Exposure PR, and secretary Jim Anderson from the States of Guernsey.
Katrina Bray, Lisa Downes and Leah Le Ruez from Liquid, Nichole Culverwell from Black Vanilla and William Church from Jersey Royal Company remain on the committee for another year and are joined by Brooke Kenyon from Orchard PR.
‘Adam has been a fantastic chair with the introduction of an annual Channel Islands PR Forum a beacon of that success. I want to continue to move the group forward and ensure that we add real value to our members by providing them with credible and quality professional development. Our members deserve access to similar opportunities that are available to their peers in UK and that will remain a key focus of the group during this year,’ said Mr Oliphant.
