Butterfield celebrated its 40th anniversary in Guernsey at an event held at the Royal Court this month attended by clients, business partners and employees.

A number of senior members of the bank attended the event including: Brendan McDonagh, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer; Conor O’Dea, Senior Executive Vice President of International Banking and Managing Director of Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited; Bob Moore, Executive Vice President and Head of Group Trust; and Raymond Sykes, Managing Director of Butterfield Bank (UK) Limited.

The business opened its Guernsey office in 1973 as a joint venture with Barings Bank and Trust and in 1989, the Bank of Butterfield was established.

Butterfield employs over 170 people in Guernsey and provides a comprehensive range of financial services to high net worth individuals and institutions from its Regency Court offices.

The bank’s charitable and community programme has this year included a campaign of supporting local causes to celebrate the anniversary. This included providing financial bursaries to six young local sportspeople to assist them in attending the 2013 Island Games in Bermuda and a donation of funds to the Guernsey Music Service wider opportunities scheme.

“We would not have accomplished our goals over the last 40 years without the support of our business partners, our employees and most importantly our clients, as well as the Government and the GFSC who create the business-friendly environment so important to the continuing success of the financial services industry in Guernsey,” said John Robinson, Managing Director of Butterfield Bank (Guernsey) Limited.

“Butterfield is looking forward to the next 40 years and the business is currently making a substantial investment in enhancing our banking systems and leveraging the talent, resources and multi-jurisdictional capabilities throughout Butterfield Group.”
