After chairing the Aztec Group for ten years, Non-Executive Chairman, John Boothman, stepped down at the end of September. John has played a significant role in guiding Aztec’s executive through a sustained period of growth from from just five clients and 20 staff in Jersey in 2003 to over 40 clients and 170 staff across the Group’s five offices today.  At the same time the Group’s assets under administration have grown from $2.6bn in 2003 to in excess of $70billion today.

Aztec Group’s CEO and Co-Founder, Edward Moore, commented ‘We are all extremely grateful to John for his commitment to the Group over the past ten years.  John has a vast wealth of knowledge and experience in the finance industry and has played a significant part in the success of the Aztec Group.’

Aztec Group’s current Non-Executive Director Richard Hills has succeeded John as its new Chairman.

Richard has been a Non-Executive Director of the Aztec Group for three years.  Richard, who is based in Guernsey, is a director of three UK LSE listed investment trusts and a shale gas exploration company which is quoted on AIM. He is also the Chairman of a private potash exploration company operating in continental Europe and acts as the investment advisor to the Lord Hanson Charitable Foundation.

Richard spent a number of years undertaking directorship roles at Henderson Administration plc before moving to Aberdeen Trust plc where he was Chairman of the Investment Committee and Head of UK equities. At Aberdeen he was instrumental in launching their New Asia Fund, the first external fund ever sponsored by Goldman Sachs. Richard then went on to found Argyll Investment Management Ltd and in 1996 wrote the highly successful “Hedge Funds – An Introduction to Skill Based Investment”.

During his career Richard has used his entrepreneurial skills widely. He was a Founder Director of the innovative, internet based FairFX plc which supplies low-cost travel currency and he has worked as a consultant with various investment businesses providing strategic advice.

Richard commented ‘I am very much looking forward to my new role as Non-Executive Chairman at the Aztec Group.  Over the past three years I have worked closely alongside John Boothman on the Aztec Group Board and am confident that under my tenure the Group will continue to go from strength to strength.’

Edward Moore further added ‘Richard is a dedicated, experienced and invaluable board member with a natural entrepreneurial approach and we all look forward to working with him as our new Chairman.’
