John Gamble, Director of Altius Consulting (CI), a division of the C5 Alliance Group, has been selected to be part of the panel of judges at the upcoming UK Student Mediation Competition taking place at the Magistrate’s Court in Jersey on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th January 2017.

The competition provides over 50 students from various law schools across the UK and Europe with the opportunity to develop dispute resolution and mediation skills. The 14 judging panels will feature senior representatives from local industry, who will join professional legal practitioners to judge local and international law students on effective mediation. Students will take part in an hour-long role play featuring actors who will test their mediation skills. The students will be judged on their mediation process, how well they engage with participants and the outcome.

Hosted by the Institute of Law Jersey and The Resolution Centre, 2017 is the first time the UK Student Mediation Competition will take place in Jersey, following the two consecutive wins for Jersey’s Team in 2015 and 2016.

John Gamble worked for Altius UK before moving to Jersey and founding Altius CI in 2008 on behalf of the UK board. The company was acquired by C5 Alliance Group last year and now offers business change services under the Altius CI brand as a wholly owned subsidiary of the C5 Alliance Group.

John Gamble, commented:

“I’m pleased to have been given the opportunity help towards the learning and development of these young law students as a judge at the UK Student Mediation Competition. As a Director of Altius, I am in conversation with a diverse range of clients spanning many different industries daily, so I understand how conflict can arise in any line of business. Whether it’s internal or with a client, turning a conflict in a dispute via mediation is a great way of turning a challenging situation into something much more positive for all parties. I hope my experience as a business leader and my common-sense approach will provide a different perspective when it comes to judging each team’s performance.”
