Local LGBTQ+ charity Liberate has launched its first poetry competition in celebration of Pride Month this June. Submissions are officially open and the competition will close at midnight on Sunday 30 June.

Competition founder Rowan Carteret said: “It’s very exciting to have a brand new competition for poets and writers in the Channel Islands, and to offer local writers the chance at publication.”

Entrants can submit up to two poems.

“Everybody who submits something has a chance at publication in a free zine. For anybody who’s not sure what a zine is, it’s essentially an in-house independent magazine which we’ll be launching in print for Channel Islands Pride 2024.”

CI Pride is being held on Saturday 7 September this year.

“Since Channel Islands Pride is a massive free community event of about 8,000 people, it is a really great opportunity to get your work and your name - or pen name - out there.”

Entries will be selected for publication by a panel of local writers.

“Word is Out! is run by and for local LGBTQ+ people - although you don’t need to be LGBTQ+ yourself to enter. We’d love for seasoned writers and newcomers to get involved.”

Anybody who entered a poem into the Channel Islands LGBTQ+ Writing Competition 2024, which closed on 30 May, can resubmit work into this competition or submit new material.

Full terms and conditions are available in the submission form, which can be found via Liberate’s Facebook page: facebook.com/liberate.ci.
