The GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews have two permanent and a casual post which they are currently looking to recruit individuals for with excellent customer and animal care skills.

Working for the GSPCA is a diverse and often challenging position with great rewards from the 3000 animals we help through the doors 24/7 each year to the community we serve here in Guernsey.

The posts currently advertised are –

  • Full Time Animal Care Assistant Post (with Animal Ambulance Collection Officer, Reception & Night duties) Post – Primarily Kennels
  • Weekend Animal Collection Officer & Animal Care Assistant (with Animal Ambulance Collection Officer, Reception & Night duties) Post – Primarily Hedgehog/Wildlife & Ambulance Duties
  • Casual Animal Care Assistant Post – the hours for this post are offered to meet the operational needs of the Shelter and are mostly on the weekend

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “With over 500 animals in our care and 3000 through our doors each year we never know what challenges we will face.”

“The full time role will primarily be helping with the 42 kennels we have caring for the dogs, but as with all staff members we look for those that can help in all areas including driving our ambulance.”

“From boarding to dogs to the strays, cruelty case dogs to those looking for homes the dogs we care for vary greatly from the smallest to the largest of breeds.

“One of our kennel team is not entirely leaving us but she is off to undertake a new role which has created the full time vacancy.”

“We also have an exciting weekend post to help cover our animal ambulance during the day and help with care of wildlife as well as a great variety of other tasks we all do working for the GSPCA.”

“Applicants don’t necessarily need experience with animals but good interpersonal skills are essential as every role at the GSPCA we work with the community and public.”

“For each of the roles it is very helpful if candidates have a driving licence, but we welcome all applicants, especially those looking to work weekend hours.”
