The Sure Big Screen outdoor cinema returns this month and this time it’s bigger than ever.
This year’s Big Screen weekend is action packed and will showcase a range of family favourites, musicals, heroes and villains, and the People’s Choice which features films that are celebrating big anniversaries this year.
Launch Day is Friday, 19 July starting at 2:15pm with Lego Movie 2, followed at 4.15pm by Tim Burton’s Dumbo which won’t be officially released on DVD for another ten days, and to close the evening there is the Oscar-winning musical journey though America’s south with Green Book starting at 7pm.
Saturday, 20 July is Heroes and Villains Day and bursting onto the screen at 2pm is The Incredibles 2, then swinging by at 4.30pm is Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse. The evening will close with a hefty dose of girl power as Captain Marvel shows us what she’s got at 7pm.
Musicals Day is the name of the game on Sunday, 21 July which starts at 12pm with the ever-popular Frozen Sing-a-Long (ear plugs not provided for adults), followed by Mary Poppins Returns at 2pm starring everyone’s favourite magical, umbrella-wielding nanny. At 4.30pm Mamma Mia Here We Go Again is taking the stage for all the dancing queens out there and then, for the final film of the night, we will rock you with Bohemian Rhapsody, showing at 7pm.
The last day of the Big Screen is Monday, 22 July and will feature the hotly contested results of the People’s Choice. The public were tasked with choosing from a selection of films, and after a neck and neck battle to the end, the winners were finally revealed; The Little Mermaid, who is 30 years young this year, will be making waves on screen at 2.00pm, next up at 4.30pm is Honey I Shrunk the Kids, the 80s comedy with big laughs and a giant heart, followed by the mind-twisting 90s classic The Matrix, which is showing at 7.00pm.
Emily Field, marketing and PR manager at Sure, said: “The Sure Big Screen is one of the highlights of the summer and we are thrilled to have such a great choice of films screening. We hope to see record numbers of you out there in front of the even bigger screen!”
The new, bigger, better screen has been supplied by local production company Joys. Owner, Peter Joy, said: “Our new six metre LED screen will create the ultimate cinematic experience. We are thrilled to be able to provide Sure with a bigger, better screen so that the event can be enjoyed in the highest quality possible.”
Once again the Sure Big Screen will take place at Cobo and this year Sure are working in partnership with the States of Guernsey and CT Plus to run a free bus service after the final film on each day.
The bus will be available to all, but a place will only be guaranteed with a ticket for those who registered through the Sure Facebook page.
Jonathan Guilbert, senior passenger transport officer for Driver and Vehicle Licensing said: “The Sure Big Screen is a great opportunity to catch up with family and friends and to enjoy a good film.
“We are delighted to be working with Sure and CT Plus to provide a free bus service. This will be in addition to the regular bus services that operate through the area. We’re hoping this will make travel arrangement a little bit easier for everyone on the day.”
