SHAKESPEARE’S Globe Touring Company is making a welcome return to St James following last year’s brilliant reception.
With three exciting new plays, and another lively, interactive audience choice night the Players are returning on 15 July for a run of four nights – Their only performances in the Channel Islands.
The plays visiting this year will be; A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like it and the Tempest. All these plays explore humankind’s relationship with Mother Nature – her power, her magic, her nourishment, her pain, her rage and her boundless potential for abundance and transformation.
Executive Director of St James, Jon Bisson, said that securing the theatre company once again for the four-day event was a great coup for Guernsey and the Channel Islands.
‘It is an amazing opportunity for Guernsey and the Channel Islands to experience the incredible talents of Shakespeare’s Globe right on their doorstep for another year.
‘It is thanks to our lead sponsors BWCI, The Red Carnation Hotel Collection and the Guernsey Arts Commission that this has been made possible. Without them we simply couldn’t afford such high calibre performers.
‘The Globe has a refreshing approach to the delivery of Shakespeare which makes it accessible to all. This perfectly matches my ambition to see St James as a ‘Cultural Hub’ with a programme of events designed to appeal to all.’
As last year the performance on the fourth night will be a repeat of one of the three previous night’s plays. He who shouts loudest wins with the audience deciding which play should be performed. Terrifying for the performers and exhilarating for the audience.
Tickets go on sale on Monday 17 February to Friends of St James and a month later to the general public.
