Getting the most out of your internet connectivity in Guernsey requires some lateral thinking, according to C5 Alliance.

Twenty managers, heads of IT and business infrastructure specialists attended the local technology company’s recent seminar with its network optimisation partner Riverbed Technology to learn more about using cloud-based enterprise computing platforms without high bandwidth costs.

Small to medium sized businesses can  achieve enterprise performance using Riverbed’s network management and optimising connectivity expertise, particularly across hybrid cloud architectures – where a business has an on-premise network but also uses cloud-based services even over cost effective internet connectivity such as a VDSL (very high speed digital subscriber lines).

The solutions can deliver control of remote sites, simplifying the centralisation of core data and applications, to reduce the dependence on IT to support each location.

Matt Ferbrache, head of technical solutions at C5 Alliance, spoke at the event.

“The latest Riverbed technology, called SaaS accelerator, can enhance online software platforms and applications such as Microsoft Office 365. We wanted to focus for this seminar on how this drives superior business performance and user experience.

“Local businesses are demanding solutions for cloud-based working but local connectivity costs have previously made this type of arrangement out of reach for many businesses. Riverbed allows businesses to sidestep this problem and puts them on a par with lower cost jurisdictions.”

Businesses that have remote sites in various locations around the world can use Riverbed technologies to achieve LAN (Local Area Network) performance over their WAN (Wide Area Network) even if a remote site has poor connectivity.

Mike Schofield, technical channel manager at Riverbed said: “The seminar was a good opportunity to speak to Guernsey businesses about the benefits of a hybrid cloud solution and to explore in more depth the advantages it might be able to provide.

“Optimisation is important as it means businesses can improve on-premise, cloud and SaaS applications without the need for completely new systems or infrastructure and the costs associated with them.”
