Sarah Hansmann will be running a series of three Queer Improv workshops as part of Liberates’ Rainbow Creatives initiative. The workshops are a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community to explore improv comedy and are completely free to attend.

Improv is short for improvisation, it's an art form where the performers make up the theatre, usually comedy, on the spot. The sessions are designed to be filled with hilarity and perhaps, a touch of mayhem. However, there is a serious benefit to the workshops.

Improv provides the opportunity for a person to develop themselves on many different levels. It’s far more than just having the ability to jump up on stage with friends and make some entertaining stuff up. Improv sets up a safe and fun environment for a person to undergo experiential self-directed learning. Through the interactive exercises and activities, participants are able to experience learning on an intellectual, physical and emotional level. Improvisation is also a wonderful vehicle for leadership development, whether it’s selfleadership or leadership of others, as it imparts crucial life skills that every person needs.

“I’m super-excited to be running this course for Liberate. Improv comedy gives you permission to be silly and the group really bonds because they’re all having such fun”, enthuses Sarah. “Whether you’re an introvert or used to being the life of the party, improv has something for everyone.”

Ellie Jones, CEO of Liberate said, “We are delighted that Sarah is giving the LGBTQ+ community the opportunity to get, ‘hands on’ with improvisational comedy. This is a really non-scary and fun way to experiment and express yourself and Sarah has promised that everyone will leave with a smile on their face”.

The sessions will take place on June 2, 9 and 16 between 7 and 9pm at the Chamber of Commerce, Market Street.
