Waitrose Admiral Park and Rohais are organising a fundraising coffee morning for customers and “bake off” for Partners for three local charities.

The fundraising events take place on Friday 26 September and will see Waitrose participate in the ‘World’s biggest coffee morning,’ organised by Macmillan Cancer Support, in aid of three local charities; the Pink Ladies, Guernsey Cancer Support and Prostate Cancer Guernsey, all of which have connections with Macmillan.

This is the second year that Waitrose has participated in the event after the suggestion of one its Partners, Lisa Newman, due to the personal experience she has had with Macmillan whilst her mother was suffering from cancer nine years ago.

Waitrose is supporting the cause by donating cakes for customers to enjoy throughout the morning in exchange for a donation into the collection boxes.

Partners have pledged to take part in a “bake off” competition away from the shop floor. They will bring their home made cakes in under the scrutinising eyes and taste buds of the Partners including community matters liaison officer, Laura Williams.

Mrs Williams said: “As our company is a co-owned business we listen to all our Partners when they have suggestions for various events and charity based fundraising. Participating in the coffee morning with the added extra bake-off was a huge success last year so it made sense to support this once again.

“Despite being keen to participate in Macmillan’s event, they kindly allowed us to donate all money raised to local cancer charities as it is important to us that the money stays on the island. We encourage everyone to pop into one of our cafes during the coffee morning to support these worthwhile causes.”
