Bowls Guernsey is delighted to announce this morning Lucy Beere won her 2018 World Cup final against Bec Van Asch from Australia 7-6, 2-8 & 5-0 to win the GOLD medal at the Warilla Club in New South Wales, Australia and becomes a World Champion again.
Lucy beat Jo Edwards (New Zealand) in the semi-final the previous day to secure a place in the final today, Lucy lost to Jo in the World Cup final last year.
Lucy previously won the World Indoor Under 25 Pairs Championships in 2008 with David Axon from Wales, a Silver Medal last year at the World Cup, a Silver Medal at the World Champion of Champions in 2009, and a bronze at the 2015 Atlantic championships, plus 2 Silver & 1 bronze medal at the last two European Championships.
Lucy will be staying in Australia for the Commonwealth Games and will be enjoying a few days rest before some practice at the Warilla Club before heading to the Gold Coast greens.
“Lucy played really well all week, we are all so very pleased she went one better than last year and won the Gold. I know many local bowlers stayed up and watched online the final which finished at around 4am this morning, again more world success on the bowling green” said a very pleased Garry Collins, Bowls Guernsey Events Coordinator.
