At the start of October, a team of volunteers from B&Q gave up their weekend to refurbish the Les Bourgs Hospice shops.
The initiative was one of the home improvement retailer’s annual Community Days and a group of colleagues offered their DIY skills to spruce up the property at Les Huriaux.
“We were absolutely thrilled that they approached us offering to give our shops a makeover,” says Hospice Enterprises Manager Catherine Boughay. “They had a budget of £1000 and asked us what we needed doing. The team of around 20 B&Q colleagues gave up their entire Sunday to work for us which was wonderful, and we are extremely grateful.”
After the colour-scheme was chosen and the site was cleared and cleaned, B&Q supplied the paint and the volunteers got to work redecorating.
“B&Q also supplied us with curtains for the changing rooms, a new dishwasher and replaced a broken tap. Everyone was so upbeat and really seemed to enjoy the fact that they were making such a positive contribution to our community. Without B&Q this would not have happened.”
Grant MacGregor store manager of B&Q Guernsey said, “It’s great to be helping Les Bourgs Hospice, the whole team love putting their practical skills to use and when it’s to support a good cause it’s even better. Fundraising weekends in store are always fun but seeing a project completed by the team gives a great sense of satisfaction.”
