The Ladies’ College has secured a TEDx Youth Licence, allowing young women in Guernsey to share their ideas and perspectives with the wider community.

With sponsorship from PwC, the College independently hosted a TEDx event for invited guests on Friday 8 November. This event set out to spotlight the voices of the next generation of female leaders, providing them with a platform to share insights on important issues and their vision for the future workforce.

The programme featured TED-style talks by students from Upper Sixth, Lower Sixth, and Lower Five, alongside a breakout session for further discussions. Topics spanned a broad range, including the impact of all-girls educational spaces and the need to amplify female voices, particularly in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Nick Dyson, Deputy Principal (Innovation and Student Development) at The Ladies’ College said: ‘It’s been great to drive this initiative and obtain a TEDx Licence for the College. We are thrilled to be working with PWC to provide a platform for female voice on island over the next few years.

‘The Ladies’ College is committed to empowering young women, and this event gives them a powerful platform to speak on topics that matter to them.'

Student at The Ladies’ College, Medha, added: ‘I have always enjoyed public speaking. It's something I wish everyone in the world had a chance to do and not only because of the joy it brings the speaker but also the message that is conveyed to the audience. I have seen the power of public speaking throughout history and the thought that my voice could make such a big impact is truly wonderful. This opportunity allows me to talk to people about the things I really care about and I believe that is one of the most underrated privileges.’

Abigail McDermott, Marketing and Business Development Director at PwC said: 'We're really looking forward to hearing the innovative, brilliant ideas of The Ladies’ College students and hope our support plays a small part in amplifying female student voices across the island, further sparking their desire to succeed as some of the world's future leading thinkers.’
