Jonathan Tammuz, who is best known for directing the short film The Child Eater, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Short Film at the 62nd Academy Awards, has joined the Guernsey team behind upcoming short film Bet Your Bottom Dollar as a producer.
The Vancouver-based Academy Award Nominee joins the team working on Bottom Dollar, which also includes Los Angeles-based Egyptian composer Omar El-Deeb, who score sound-designed the second season of the hit Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian, as well as having composed the original score for the 2021 SXSW-premiering horror film Sound of Violence.
Tammuz, who was also nominated for the Canadian Screen Award for Best Director at the 19th Genie Awards for his 1998 comedy road movie Rupert’s Land, is joined by fellow Brit and household-name Paterson Joseph (Wonka, Peep Show, Noughts + Crosses), who stars in the cast, lending his voice to the role of Victor.
Joining Joseph in filling the cast ranks, and alongside Tammuz in being a high-brow award nominee, is the César Award Nominee Marc F Duret (Outlander, La Haine, The Big Blue) in the voice role of François - Joseph’s colleague at Parier 24. Duret has recently been confirmed to star as Monsieur Brillon in the upcoming joint Apple Studios’ and ITV miniseries Franklin, which stars Michael Douglas as Benjamin Franklin.
Leading the cast is local actor Cameron Ashplant (Marooned Awakening, The Last Bus, Masters of the Air) with another local actor, Dave Hyett (Underground), in a supporting role.
Bet Your Bottom Dollar is written and directed by local filmmaker Brandon Ashplant, and produced by Golden Goat Films with support from Guernsey Arts. It was shot in various locations on-island last year. As well as a global team, including London-based Jay Mukherjee who developed the sound design, and Los Angeles-based Juan Andrés Matos playing piano for composer Omar El-Deeb, much of the crew is locally based, consisting of Matthew Stockreiter (Director of Photography), Kenneth Worthington (First Assistant Director / Editor), Anthony Ford-Marsland (Gaffer), Barney Lawson (Boom Operator), Nick Biddlecombe (Colourist) and Gaz Papworth of Element Films (Sound Recording Support).
