SPECSAVERS has donated more than £18,000 to Guernsey Mind to help improve mental health and wellbeing in the island, following the conclusion of a three-year partnership that was extended due to the pandemic.
Specsavers adopted Guernsey Mind as its corporate charity of choice in 2018 following a renewed focus on mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, which included the development of a new wellbeing online hub and new initiatives to ensure a healthy work/life balance.
Chair of the Community Sports and Social Club, Grant Dowinton, says it has been a great team effort from all his colleagues at their La Villiaze support office.
‘At Specsavers, we are passionate about giving back to the community, which is at the heart of our company vision and values, so it is great to be able to offer our support to such a worthwhile and important charity as Guernsey Mind.
‘This is an especially amazing effort, given the impact of Covid during the past two years. Colleagues have hosted an array of charity event fundraisers, including raffles, bake off competitions and the sale of sunglasses and unwanted technology items.
‘It is sad that our support of Guernsey Mind is coming to an end, but we look forward to supporting three new charities as voted for by our colleagues - the Guernsey Blind Association, Grow Ltd and Guernsey Cancer Support.'’
Formed in 1977, Guernsey Mind is an independent charity with all funds spent on delivering services locally. However, as a member of the Mind UK Federation Network, they are able to draw on its resources and expertise to help deliver their vision at a local level.
