The GCOS Christmas 2019 concert is their first concert under the direction of Daniel Madden and will feature Handel’s sparkling Utrecht Te Deum alongside other Christmas music.
They are also collaborating with the energetic young voices from Guernsey Music Centre’s Intermediate choir, their director Rachel Wright and talented local soloists Debbie Bideau, Sally Surcombe, Tina James, Niall Mc Cathie and Roger Le Tissier.
Handel composed this Te Deum to celebrate the Peace of Utrecht following the War of the Spanish Succession in 1713. It is thought to be his first commission from the British royal family and was his first to feature English text, thus marking a significant turning point in his career.
With joyful music and traditional Christmas carols, this concert promises to be a terrific way for the community to come together and enjoy some festive spirit.
This concert will feature:
Guernsey Choral and Orchestral Society is a mixed-voice choir of about 80 singers and orchestra, that will perform Handel’s “Utrecht” Te Deum and a selection of Christmas music with guest soloists and the Guernsey Music Centre Intermediate Choir.
The concert will take place on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 December at 19:30 at St James’ Concert and Assembly Hall.
