As part of Volunteers Week, Girlguiding Guernsey held a celebratory event at Les Cotils on Sunday 4th June to thank their volunteer leaders. Over 40 leaders and supporters attended and were treated to scones and cakes and were given a special commemorative badge and raffle prize.

Bailiwick Commissioner Colette Merrien gave a short presentation to thank everyone for giving their time to support Girlguiding and special thanks badges were given to several leaders for going above and beyond their roles.

Colette said “I was delighted to be able to give everyone a special thank you on Sunday as all our leaders do an amazing job. They give their time to ensure that our Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers have fun, adventure and the space to discover their potential. As well as their weekly meetings our leaders also help us put on other special events. For example on Saturday over 200 girls went to a special showing of the Little Mermaid at the Mallard Cinema which they all thoroughly enjoyed.”

In addition, Colette took the opportunity to launch the Girlguiding South West Tri-Guiding Challenge. This challenge has been designed for the public as part of The Big Help Out, to encourage people to volunteer within Girlguiding, whilst showcasing what Guiding is all about. The aim is to demonstrate the wonderful opportunities that are available to their members.

Colette said “This challenge is open to any adult who is not currently a member of Girlguiding. It is an opportunity for you to find out more about us, discover the fun we have in Girlguiding and see how you can support us in a variety of different ways. To complete your Tri-Guiding Challenge we are encouraging you to do three things to support your local Girlguiding groups.
• help promote your local guiding group;
• take part in an event or activity;
• try out a meeting.

Anyone who completes the Challenge before 31st October 2023 will receive a unique Tri-Guiding reward badge in thanks from us.
