All motor vehicles, including motorcycles, which enter the restricted zone in Rennes, whichincludes the city’s ‘Route Peripherique’, will be required to display a windscreen sticker.

The vignette, or sticker system was introduced to reduce the emissions output in larger cities on days where there is a risk of reaching their Euro emissions limit. Vehicles not displaying the sticker can be fined up to a maximum of €135 (£117) if they enter a restricted area. Where a restriction has been implemented the category of vehicle restricted will depend on the severity of pollutants in the air on any given day.

Maps of the restricted areas for each city are available on the official Crit’Air website.The price for a sticker for foreign-registered vehicles has reduced from €4.80 per vignette to €3.11 plus postage (as of June 2018).

You can apply online for a sticker via the official Crit’Air website. You will need to knowyour vehicle’s European Emissions Standard. This can be found by visiting carfueldata.dft.gov.uk and entering your vehicle make, model, year of registration and fuel type.

Important: Some unofficial, third party websites are known to be selling Crit’Air vignettes for more than seven times the rate set by the French government – motorists should ensure they only buy a sticker through the official Crit’Air website. The site offers an English language option.
