LOCAL outreach, mentoring and support charity, The Youth Commission, and Credit Suisse nominated charity, is using funds donated by Credit Suisse to continue to provide valuable, emotional health and wellbeing services for young people from age 9 to 18 years in the Bailiwick.

The £25,000 bequest from Credit Suisse will fund a member of the charity’s Support Team for a year and see up to 2,000 Island children benefit from one to one sessions focussing on their mental health. Services offered also include specialist support in bereavement through the Commission’s Sunflower Project; as well as support for victims of child sexual exploitation.

Charlie Cox, CEO of The Youth Commission, said, “We are thrilled with the donation from Credit Suisse as it allows us to keep an otherwise, unfunded service running for a further 12 months. The partnership also helps raise our profile locally and the team at Credit Suisse has shown tremendous passion, energy and commitment supporting us through their fantastic events.

CEO and Guernsey Branch Manager of Credit Suisse, Paul Annegarn, said: “We are delighted to help the Youth Commission and support its valuable work in the Bailiwick and our staff have been really enthusiastic. The feedback from both sides signifies that the relationship between Credit Suisse and The Youth Commission is changing young peoples’ lives locally which is positive and rewarding.”

Credit Suisse has been working with The Youth Commission since 2018 with the charity selected as partner by the 100-strong staff at the company through its Charity Committee. Over the past year, Credit Suisse has invited The Youth Commission to take ‘lunch and learn’ sessions plus staff mentored local students over a five-week course supporting the Prince’s Trust Achieve programme, which covered writing CVs and developing interview techniques. The total commitment of £25,000 was achieved through a range of activities including The Hel(l)vetia Challenge, weekly mufti days, cake sales, sausage sizzle, raffles, Santa Surf and beach cricket.

The Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney (The Youth Commission) is an independent local charity responsible for the delivery of all forms of youth work in the Bailiwick. It provides children and young people aged 4-25 with seamless access to a range of universal and specialist services ensuring they can take part in activities or get the tailored support that is most relevant to their individual needs. Children do not need to be referred to the Youth Commission so early intervention can be provided to families who otherwise would not access support.
