Bowel Cancer Guernsey is hosting its popular free Family Fun Day this Sunday, 15th May between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.

The aim of the event, sponsored by local fiduciary firm Aquitaine, is to raise awareness of bowel cancer and of the charity while encouraging local families to get active and stay healthy. There will be several physical activities for children and adults of all ages to enjoy.

Representatives from GFC will be teaching football drills and hosting games for children in the Guernsey Sports Commission’s inflatable football pitch; parents are also welcome to have a kickabout.

Andy Perkins will be holding personal training sessions, while B Creative will be inviting islanders of all ages to dance their way to fitness.

The event will also see the unveiling of the charity’s new inflatable bowel, financed through a grant from Lloyds Bank Foundation, which illustrates a journey through the stages of bowel cancer whilst offering an innovative and fun way of highlighting that bowel cancer can be treatable.

In addition to all these activities, there will be a bouncy castle, climbing wall, skipping challenge, cycling training courtesy of Bikeability and more to keep the little ones entertained.

Anne Brouard, Chairperson of Bowel Cancer Guernsey, says: ‘We’re so pleased to be hosting our Family Fun Day once again. This event aims to encourage islanders of every age to get moving and have fun; even a family game of tag counts as moderate exercise.

‘We want to say a huge thank you to our event sponsor Aquitaine, and we are also incredibly grateful to all the suppliers and people who are donating their time to what we hope will be a fantastic event.

‘Events like this are also significant in helping to get people talking about bowel cancer, as there is still a shyness around the disease.

Steven Ward, Managing Director at Aquitaine Group Limited, comments: ‘We are delighted to support Bowel Cancer Guernsey with their fantastic event. We’re committed to supporting the local community and hope that the day will generate awareness of this treatable cancer.
