Islanders fancying a British tradition instead of a Christmas one will be able to support Les Bourgs Hospice when Beeton’s Fish & Chips opens its doors for a special charity day.

On Tuesday 29th December, the owners Kim and Andy Ashplant will donate every penny taken during their lunchtime and evening openings to Les Bourgs Hospice.

Mrs Ashplant said: "We have been long-time supporters of Les Bourgs Hospice as we have personal experience of the amazing care they give to islanders with life limiting illnesses and their families at a time when they need it the most.

"This will be the 12th year that Beeton’s Fish & Chips has done a charity day and we have raised more than £25,000 in that time. Our Les Bourgs Hospice charity day is the only day we open between Christmas and New Year and so it’s always busy as people can be a bit fed up of turkey and of cooking."

Money raised at last year’s charity day was added to Les Bourgs corporate clay pigeon shoot with the £11,000 total being used to buy a new van for use by the hospice and the charity shop.

Chairman of the Friends of Les Bourgs Hospice Jack Honeybill said: "We want to thank Andy, Kim and the team at Beeton’s Fish & Chips for giving up a day of their well-earned festive break to raise money for Les Bourgs Hospice. Every year, we need to raise more than £1m. to cover the running costs and that would be an impossible challenge if it wasn’t for the amazing generosity of local companies. I know I’ll be going along before the healthy eating starts in January."

Beeton’s customers are also able to pick up the 2016 Les Bourgs Hospice diaries, which commemorates the 25th anniversary of the hospice, in exchange for a donation.
