Another successful year for the bigger and better Town Carnival

This year’s Town Carnival has been deemed the most successful yet, with a variety of local performers supporting the acts that visited the island from across UK.

The week-long event organised by the Town Centre Partnership which took place from 19 – 26 July was bigger than ever with performers based across ten locations in St Peter Port, with occasional performances at the Liberation Monument and the Tourist Information Office.

Although the increase in performance areas meant a larger event budget was needed, thanks to the generosity of sponsors, supporters and the general public the event had its costs covered.

Jack Honeybill, executive officer of the TCP, said: “We have had an absolutely fantastic Carnival week, St Peter Port once again came alive with music and entertainment. I would like to thank all of those involved - without the sponsors it simply would not be possible to put on such a great event which so many people enjoy. The performers were all outstanding.”

With £40,000 raised the Town Centre Partnership is already looking to next year’s event. One act already confirmed is Opera duo ImagineJack, who have been visiting the island for eight years, with thanks to long term supporters the Ana Leaf Foundation. ImagineJack sing a variety of classical songs based around opera and have been performing as a duo for ten years.

Hayley de Putron, trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation, said: “The feedback from this year’s event has been brilliant. Our commitment until 2016 supporting the Town Carnival means that high quality entertainment can be booked well in advance ensuring islanders and visitors are once again treated to something really special during Carnival week so they will take away fantastic memories of this wonderful island of Guernsey and all that it has to offer. The Ana Leaf Foundation is delighted to sponsor entertainment of this calibre that delights and entertains young and old alike.”

In addition sponsorship for 2015 has been promised from the Old Government House Hotel for string quartet Classycool, Creasey’s to support Punch and Judy and Airtel Vodafone will sponsor 100 hours of local performers, with subsidised accommodation confirmed from Les Rocquettes Hotel. As a consequence with substantial private donations promised Town Carnival week will take place 18 to 25 July 2015 and anyone keen to perform or get involved can contact Jack Honeybill on 07781113464 or jackhoneybill@hotmail.com.

Sponsorship is being sought for more artists and elements of the event to make it bigger and better next year. The Black tie dinner featuring an evening’s classical entertainment will take place on 22 July at the Duke of Richmond and sponsors are being sought.
