Following the success of Waitrose products on sale in Sark, another one of the Channel Islands will also be stocking products from the UK retailer in two of its local stores.

With a population of just under 2,000, the island of Alderney will receive deliveries of more than 2,600 Waitrose own label and branded chilled, frozen and store cupboard products to meet the demand of residents.

Some of the products that are being delivered to the island include everything from pasta, table sauces, fish, a range of desserts, herbs, fruit juices and cheese.

The Alderney Farm Shop and the newly-restored Jean’s Stores will stock the new produce. Both stores are run by dairy farmer Michael Cox and his family, in particular his daughter Hannah who manages the shops and was responsible for joining up with Waitrose.

As the third-largest Channel Island and part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, Alderney will be the fourth island to receive produce from the UK grocer that has established branches in Jersey and Guernsey.

Michael Cox, of The Alderney Farm Shop and Jean’s Stores, said: “It’s great that Waitrose has come on board to supply our stores. This range of products has not previously been available to Alderney residents without having to book a trip to Guernsey first. As a retailer, this will make a huge difference to our offering on the island.”

David Morton, Director, Business to Business at Waitrose, said: “After receiving such a positive reaction to our products in Sark’s Food Stop, we were very keen to offer Alderney the same opportunity.

“The range of lines that we will be providing was agreed with Alderney residents and the store’s customers so we know that we will be meeting the demand of islanders.”
