AFM is refurbishing the Ladies’ Pool changing rooms at La Valette as part of its CSR activity for 2016.
The project, which will enhance the facilities greatly, started this week; the changing rooms will be totally stripped out and undergo significant changes over the next few weeks.
Mark Edgar, managing director of AFM, said: "The changing rooms are in a terrible state – damp and antiquated.
"AFM decided to get involved with the public/private partnership to overhaul the facilities at La Valette as part of our 2016 corporate social responsibility programme.
"We wanted to give something back to the public and by enhancing the changing rooms and kitchen area we felt this would assist the Legacy Team project being headed up by Pat Johnson and Andrew Pouteau."
Both AFM staff and volunteers will be helping out during the refurbishment programme and it hoped that the changing rooms will be completed on or before 13 February.
"We are totally gutting the internal areas of the changing rooms and kitchen area down at the Ladies’ Pool and aiming to hand back a much needed updated and refreshed facility which will be better equipped and nicer for the public to use moving forwards. We have called upon local suppliers and clients to help us with contributions such as a new roof, electric water heaters and other much needed items," said Mr Edgar.
AFM is also going to be donating a few surprises, which will enhance the overall look and feel of the building; all will be revealed at the Grand Opening on 14 February.
Earlier this year the Legacy Team was overwhelmed by the public support it received to a call for volunteers to help clear large areas to enable the refurbishment to go ahead.
The aim is to restore the Victorian splendour that was once present and it is hoped that the whole renovation will be completed by May 2016.
