Young Enterprise on the lookout for new talent

Since its launch in Guernsey in 1982, the Young Enterprise scheme has given more than 1000 students from local schools the chance to learn about running a business.

The programme is now searching for secondary school students, aged between 15 and 19, to take part in this year's challenge.

"The Young Enterprise programme gives young people in Guernsey the opportunity to gain experience in a professional environment and develop skills outside of the classroom," said Board Member Andrew Niles.

"We're looking forward to another year of great fun and business with some of the brightest young business people on the island."

The programme is facilitated by local business professionals over the course of eight months. The syllabus aims to provide a broad-based understating of corporate management, capital raising, governance, marketing, mentoring and an insight into the day-to-day trials of running a real business.

"I am always amazed at finals night," said Chief Digital Officer at Sure, Justin Bellinger. "These businesses take the challenge seriously and you can see they put in a lot of effort to be crowned the winner. We have sponsored the Young Enterprise programme since the outset and every year I am inspired and rewarded by the amazing results that our young islanders produce."

The year builds towards a presentation evening where companies will deliver their end-of-year reports with the aim of winning locally for the chance to compete nationally and internationally.

Last year's Guernsey Company of the Year was YEP, which focused on environmental impact. The team went on to win the Regional Finals before going on to the National Finals in London.
