VisitGuernsey is partnering with the location finding app 'what3words' to encourage visitors to explore undiscovered hidden gems across the Bailiwick.
Launching in March, the organisation will unveil a discovery themed competition, featuring some of the most scenic locations in Guernsey.
Entrants will follow directions, published on VisitGuernsey's website, to sites using the 'what3words' app for the chance to win a wide range of prizes.
The free app launched in 2013, was named 'App of the Day' in 143 countries in November 2019, and now has more than a million downloads on Google's App Store.

It uses a unique three word address as a digital signpost to find very specific locations, such as hidden spots where a postcode isn't available or places were the postcode covers too wide an area. The app then guides users directly to the location using the built in compass.
VisitGuernsey has identified 20 hard to find but must see sights so far and, working with 'what3words', has given them their own unique address. For example, to find the exact location in Herm where the Nazis filmed their beach invasion propaganda films, users will search for 'sizes.moreover.arching' on the app.
Other locations identified include a scenic viewpoint over the Bailiwick from Herm, the Venus Pools in Sark and the best place to watch the Liberation Day fireworks in Guernsey.

"There are many must see locations and sights across the islands of Guernsey that visitors can miss out on seeing," a spokesperson for VisitGuernsey said. "The aim of the competition and partnership with 'what3words' is to help visitors find these hard to reach locations in an easy and fun way and to encourage them to share their pictures of these hidden gems with their friends and families via social media."
The app can be downloaded on the Apple and Google App Stores.
It offers offline navigation, so visitors will not need a roaming package on their phones to use it.
