Wayfarers celebrates 30 years in business

Monday 08 January 2018

Guernsey based Wayfarers World Travel is marking three decades in business.

The firm, which was initially set up by husband and wife Mike and Val Goddard in 1987 with just three staff, was sold to The Online Regional Travel Group in 2007. It is now headed up by Mr and Mrs Goddard's son, Simon Goddard, CEO of the Group.

The business has evolved since it was launched thirty years ago and now has leisure and business divisions as well as websites www.justtheflight.co.uk and www.escapetherock.gg.

It has grown from just the three staff to twelve, with a number of long-serving employees including Retail Manager Samantha Fusellier and Business Travel Manager Sheena Le Prevost. They said they had seen the industry change from a paper-based world where airline tickets were hand-written, fares were published once a month in a paper manual and the height of technology was just a phone and calculator to today's online world of email, websites and social media.

Wayfarers Travel says it has a positive outlook with the business experiencing an increase in bookings since the launch of the firm's new 'escape the rock' holiday website in 2016.

“Escapetherock.gg is an extension of Wayfarers travel store, enabling customers to ‘think local, buy local’ not only in the high street but online too," CEO Simon Goddard said.  He added that reassurance and trust remain major factors when it comes to booking travel.
