Direct debit TRP payments change to monthly

Wednesday 05 February 2020

As of March this year, property owners who pay their tax on real property through direct debit will be charged monthly, rather than quarterly.

The payments will be collected in ten monthly instalments from March to December, on or after the 28th of the month.

The change follows feedback from some property owners who said they would rather pay a more regular, smaller amount of annual property tax.

There are currently around 9,000 people who pay their TRP by direct debit.

Those customers have protection from the Direct Debit Guarantee Scheme, which provides:

  • An immediate money back guarantee from the bank if there is an error in payment
  • Notice in advance of any date or amount changes
  • The right to cancel any time

The States of Guernsey doesn't apply any additional charge for direct debit payments.

The 2020 TRP accounts will be issued in March.
