Triathlon challenge returns after last year's success

Friday 04 May 2018

The Hel(l)vetia Challenge is returning for a second year this July to raise funds for Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association and many other charities.

Team entries, with a minimum of one person, for this unique triathlon in St Peter Port are now open.

The Hel(l)vetia Challenge, named after Credit Suisse’s headquarters at the South Esplanade, involves teams of Guernsey companies completing a triathlon-inspired route in the name of charity from 12:00 - 18:00 on Thursday 12 July 2018 in central St Peter Port.

The organisers hope that collectively the event will raise £50,000 for various charities.

Paul Annegarn, CEO and Guernsey Branch Manager at Credit Suisse, said: "The event was a huge success last year and we’re hoping it will be even bigger this year, with more teams entering and more money being raised. Everyone, including those not taking part, should come down and join in on what will be a fantastic day of fundraising and camaraderie."

"Everyone can take part, as completing a lap can include one person by themselves or two or three sharing the swim, cycle and run. It’s a fun and friendly challenge and contestants are by no means required to be fit athletes. At 5pm we will host a celebrities race, followed by the Guernsey Triathlon Club completing the route at 17:30, which is where we will see some super fit athletes round off the event. Everyone is also welcome to gather at CoCo from 6:15pm for an after party."

Contestants are encouraged to complete between one and 10 laps, which includes swimming from Castle Cornet to the Octopus, cycling up and down the Val Des Terres and running from the Aquarium to Castle Cornet. Teams can share each lap, or laps, in any way they choose. One lap is estimated to last between 25-50 minutes depending on ability and level of fitness.

There are plenty of time slots available. To enter a team, please confirm number of laps and timings with triathlon.guernsey@credit-suisse.com.
