Swimming fundraiser from Carey Olsen

Staff from Carey Olsen have taken part in a lunchtime swim at Belle Greve bay to raise money for the law firm's two nominated charities - the Guernsey Cardiac Action Group and the Guernsey Child Contact Centre LBG.

The 18 partners and staff who participated in the swim helped raise a total of £588 for the charities.

It was the second year in a row that Carey Olsen had held its 'Big Chill Challenge', which sees staff members take to the chilly waters provided their colleagues can raise the necessary funds to take them from a 'volunteer' to a 'swimmer'. If they have been nominated but would rather spectate then they have to pay a buy-out.

Carey Olsen senior associate Adrian Sarchet, who is chairman of the firm's Guernsey charities committee and someone who took part in the swim earlier this month [Friday 20 April], said: "The swim was a great success last year so it was an easy decision to repeat it. We tried to make it a little more daunting for our swimmers this time around by doing it a few weeks earlier in the year but were blessed with even better weather. Perhaps next year we'll have to hold the event in January!

"Having said that, the most important thing about doing the swim is that we've once again been able to raise money for two fantastic local charities."

The Guernsey Cardiac Action Group aims to raise awareness of heart disease, promote cardiac patient care and facilitate the development of cardiac services across Guernsey, while the Guernsey Child Contact Centre provides a safe environment for children to maintain and re-establish contact with a parent, grandparent, sibling, other relative or another person important in their life.

Carey Olsen's Guernsey office has committed to support both charities through various fundraising events for a two-year period up to June 2019.
