Sponsor helps Yacht Club to hold Alderney races

Monday 24 August 2020

The Guernsey Yacht Club will be holding its first and only off-island races this year this Bank Holiday weekend.

The Alderney August Bank Holiday Weekend Race, sponsored by Polygon Collective, will take place Saturday 29 to Monday 31 August.

It is expected to achieve a large number of entrants this year since The Guernsey Yacht Club has not been able to race involving other destinations since the corona virus hit.

Martin Priest, Committee Member of The Guernsey Yacht Club, said: "We are extremely pleased we can hold the Alderney August Bank Holiday Race as our only “other destination” race after lockdown. This is happening with Polygon’s support."

"We are anticipating a large number of entrants from the sailing community for this race and this year’s format has been adapted to meet the travel restrictions that we currently have and should provide enjoyable sailing for all taking part."

Martin Belcher, Chairman of Polygon Collective, said: "We have been supporting the traditional pursuit race to Alderney for many years and this year the race is marking a key milestone, hopefully enabling The Guernsey Yacht Club to return to its traditional racing schedule again in the near future."
