Skipton offers two-years financial support to CAB

Citizens Advice Guernsey is set to benefit from a two-year financial commitment from local bank Skipton International, as well as offering support to Jersey’s equivalent.

It comes after the new boss of the local Citizens Advice branch, Ali Marquis, made corporate sponsorship and fundraising her top priority to allow the service to continue offering free and confidential advice to the public.

It’s trained advisers deal with around 12,000 queries each year on multiple subjects.

Ms Marquis said funds are required more than ever, paying tribute to Skipton for the generous offer.

“Many islanders are struggling with financial concerns with the rising cost of living and increasing mortgage payments, but other problems can range from family disputes, employer issues, access to affordable housing and rising energy bills,” she added.

Work is ongoing to update online channels, training volunteers on new legislation.

Extra volunteers are also being sought, with Ms Marquis making a plea to any businesses reading to offer support whether it be a one-off project or just a day’s commitment.

Aaron Walden is Skipton’s Senior Commercial Manager, said the bank tries to help the local community wherever it can.

“By supporting Citizens Advice across the Channel Islands, we hope many more islanders can receive advice and guidance when they need it.”

Support will be offered in Jersey as the bank operates a mortgage centre on the island.
