Business spanning fintech, healthtech, mediatech, data analysis, as well as the fitness and wellness markets have progressed through an accelerator programme that has given them a route to market.
Products and skills were refined as 11 enterprises made their way through the Digital Greenhouse’s Startup Academy programme, which is now in its second year.
Over 10-weeks those involved were given advice from venture-building experts Blenheim Chalcot, culminating in a presentation pitch evening.

“Businesses go from early stages or even idea-based to a minimum viable product so they can start getting to market, looking at things such as prototyping and testing to make sure that what they're building is what's needed by the customer,” said Digital Greenhouse Programme and Engagement Manager Ben Wratten.
The academy was testament to the wide range of businesses being developed in the island.

“What we're seeing with a lot of businesses is that they're using Guernsey as their testbed to refine their product, get it working, and then take it further afield, whether it's the UK, Europe or wider,” he said.
“There's a really great chance to test or build locally and then scale globally.”

Businesses on the course are working in areas including developing a platform for health professionals to more easily offer tailored advice to patients, developing data strategies for businesses, building innovative ways of offering wellness coaching, integrating new technology and ways of working to protect local media and solutions to risk management and secure document transfers.
The Digital Greenhouse offers more opportunities for business development.
Their Venture Challenge this summer provides eight tech startups the opportunity to take part in a 6-week mentorship-driven accelerator programme, concluding with a final pitch night with £70,000 worth of prize money available.
“We have also launched the Global Growth Programme this year which is taking businesses that are alumni from the two previous Guernsey Venture Challenge to then help them get into international markets and scale to a global stage.”

The Start Up Academy has been a platform for success.
As well as those that have progressed into the Global Growth Programme, two winners of last year’s Venture Challenge came from that year’s cohort.

One of the businesses has also been shortlisted for the Websummit Alpha Programme, meaning they beat 17,000 other companies from around the world for a chase to present in Lisbon in November.
The Digital Greenhouse will be running the Startup Academy again in 2025.
