New Registrar of Companies is appointed

The Committee for Economic Development has appointed Mat Desforges as the new Registrar of Companies.

Mr Desforges, who'll take up the post in 2019, will be responsible for delivering strategic direction and managing the Guernsey Registry which is responsible for administering its various Registers as well as being home to the island's Intellectual Property Office, and the Charities and Non Profit Organisations Register.

The Registrar is also responsible for a small, dedicated team which liaises with Guernsey businesses, external bodies and key stakeholders including the Guernsey Financial Services Commission and Guernsey Finance, as well as other States bodies. 

The Guernsey Registry was established in 2008 and is an essential part of Guernsey’s business infrastructure. Its main functions include examining and storing information on the various registers, as required under Guernsey legislation. The Guernsey Registry has an annual turnover of approximately £9 million and all surplus returns are directed to the general revenues of the States of Guernsey.

Deputy Charles Parkinson, President of the Committee for Economic Development, said: “We are delighted that Mat has been appointed to this important role. We are confident that he will be able to work with business, regulators, Registry staff and other stakeholders to ensure the Registry goes from strength to strength.”

Mr Desforges added: “I am looking forward to this new challenge. I have worked closely with various stakeholders within the Guernsey economy for many years and understand the important role which the Registry provides for the island. I am excited to be able to continue to work within the public sector to provide an excellent registry service for the good of businesses and the local economy.”
